Thunderstruck

Last night a special welcome dinner, for the Open Qualifier teams, was held by the poolside at the Manwan Harmona Resort. Today competitors will register for their series and most will take the opportunity to have their first look at the worlds sailing venue.

The third and final day of racing in the Hobie® Great Grand Masters Class, Grand Masters, Women and Youth Classes in the 2016 Hobie 16 World Championship regatta in Dapeng, China is programmed to be contested today. Competitors were woken early, around 5am, by loud claps of thunder, flashes of lightning and rain, however the storm was short lived and had passed before breakfast, leaving plenty of time for conditions to improve further before the start of scheduled racing.

It is currently 260C with today’s weather forecast accurate at the moment with the prediction of early rain and thunderstorms. We are expecting a maximum temperature of 300C with light winds that should have shifted from the SSW breezes we have experienced over the past week and moved to the SSE at 5 to 7 kts.

Currently leading the Great Grand Masters is Grahame Southwick and Sharon Rayner from Fiji. Rod and Kerry Waterhouse from Australia lead the Grand Masters. Krystal Weir and Georgia Warren-Myers from Australia lead the Women’s class and Auxence Thomas and Noa Ancian from New Caledonia lead the Youth division.

Everyone is hoping for some racing today and the good news is that the thunderstorm has come in early and already appears to be moving further inland and to the north well before the scheduled start of race one. Fingers crossed!
