The Hobie 16 World Championship event team have flown in to a 28ºC (78ºF) Shenzhen Dapeng, to be greeted with two days of consistent 10kt breeze, blown in day and night, from a warm South China Sea. The encouraging breeze has freshened the already agreeable Asian air temperature.
Before commencing the taxing preparation work for the world championships the world’s team have been acclimatising themselves to the new environment, that will be their home for the next month. All team members have been absolutely blown away by the carvings, the colour and the serene ambience of the 600 year old, Dongshan Buddhist Temple.
Prior to being culturally enriched exploring the cobblestone streets of Dapeng Fortress they indulged in a Chinese tea ceremony in the ambience of the tearoom above the walled city’s Northern Gate. Undoubtedly, this will be the first of many return visits to this awe-inspiring experience into life in ancient China.
The team walked along the foreshore just north of the event site as the area bustled, an incredible vibe resonated in the streets, music pulsated from bars and restaurants and people played on the sand and in the surrounding warm water.
Trips to Dapeng Central and its supermarkets, shops, western restaurants, phone stores and banks, with accessible ATM access, have made living in a foreign culture an easy adjustment for all to make.
The two days have been a wonderful adventure, but the most treasured experience so far has been the interaction with the amazingly friendly local people.
