Day Two Series Two

Today competitors in the Great Grand Masters, Grand Masters, Women’s and Youth divisions of the 21st Hobie® 16 Worlds Championships in China go into day two of competition. With one day down and one day to go tomorrow it is an extremely important day for teams to have a solid performance and set themselves up for the final day of the series.

While most of China is expecting wet periods throughout the day, in the Guangdong Province around the Dapeng New District, we are expecting a 60% chance of a thunderstorm later this morning. Otherwise we are in for a hot and humid day with periods of sun breaking through the cloud cover.

The temperature at 5:30am was sitting at 280C (82.40F), which has been the standard for the past two weeks. High UV levels will accompany the maximum temperature for the day, which should reach 330C (91.40F). But with the combination of very high humidity and the heat the real feel will be more like 470C (116.60F) particularly for those not in the breeze.

The wind will favour those who prefer light conditions, today 6kts will puff in early from the SSW and pick up to 8kts later in the day. A little more wind than predicted has blown through in the afternoon on most days of the regatta, hopefully the same will occur today.

Yesterday was a great start to the series with Grahame Southwick and Sharon Rayner from Fiji heading off the beach today leading the Great Grand Masters division. Rod and Kerry Waterhouse from Australia will cross, the day two, start line, leading the Grand Masters division. Nina Curtis and Haylee Outteridge from Australia are the leaders of the Women’s Class and the Youth division, in the regatta, is led New Caledonians Auxence Thomas and Noa Ancian.

Good luck to all teams on day two.
